Backyard Rubs Winter Blues? Eat Your Way Up!

Winter Blues? Eat Your Way Up!

It's that time of year again, where we all set and make resolutions. For most people, those revolve around setting up new habits or patterns in life - like exercising more. There is nothing wrong with this process or those goals. But what if we focused on the food we ate and the foods we don't eat?  What if you could change the way you feel simply by changing what you eat? Pick yourself up by eating foods that will encourage positive mental and physical health!

Does the winter get you down? Food is medicine, and the winter blues are no joke.

The list of winter-friendly foods is a long one. So don't just set resolutions for exercising more - eat to exercise better!

Some great winter foods to eat are:

-Root vegetables - like carrots, sweet potatoes and beets. They are all packed with antioxidants, which will help keep you cozy during the long winter months.

-Red meat - specifically grass-fed beef. It is high in Omega-Three fatty acids, which have anti-inflammatory properties and are great for your heart.

-Spinach - Popeye was onto something with this leafy green. Spinach is high in Vitamin C, which helps boost your immune system, and it's also a good source of iron.

-Nuts - Walnuts, almonds and pistachios are all high in Omega-Three fatty acids, magnesium and Vitamin E. They are the perfect snack to keep you full and focused during winter.

-Fruit - Citrus fruits like oranges, grapefruits and tangerines are all high in Vitamin C. But other winter fruits like apples, pears and bananas are great too! They are packed with fiber, which will help keep you satisfied.

-Dark chocolate - you knew this would be on the list! Dark chocolate, especially 70 percent or higher dark chocolate has a lot of antioxidants and magnesium. Some studies even show that it can lower your blood pressure and improve cholesterol levels (if consumed in moderation).

What about you? What foods do you eat to feel good in the winter months?

Now that we've covered all of these great tips, let's also talk about how easy it is for foodies like us to apply them with our organic rubs and seasonings .  For example: If you're grilling up some grass-fed beef this winter, give our Organic Daddy Crack a try. It's perfect for bringing out the natural flavor of the meat while adding a touch of smokiness.

Or if you're in the mood for some roasted sweet potatoes, we've got you covered with our Organic Spicy Mama Rub. It has all sorts of delicious flavors that are perfect for sweet potatoes - will really bring the heat.

So this year, make resolutions to eat better! Not just for your physical health, but for your mental wellbeing as well. The winter blues are no joke - so don't let them get you down. Fight back with some good old-fashioned food medicine!

Happy New Year!
